Note: flora are arranged according to the habitats in which they are typically found. Within each habitat grouping, they are arranged according to color (yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, white, brown). Most photos are taken in the New York City region within a hundred-mile radius of Manhattan. A few are taken in the Catskills and the Adirondacks within a day's drive of Manhattan. These photos offer a representative sampling of the flora of New York. It is a growing collection, so check back for new photos and updates. Keep in mind that ranges and flowering times of plants are shifting as a result of global warming. My primary sources are Clemants and Gracie, Wildflowers in the Fields and Forests: A Field Guide to the Northeastern United States (2006), Chapman et al., Wildflowers of New York (1998), and Petersen and McKenny, Field Guide to Wildflowers of Northeastern and North-central North America (1968).
